On the exceptional location of Poé (commune of Bourail) which is right at the beach, you will immediately enjoy an unforgettable flight over the lagoon from take-off until landing.

CAP ULM offers Introductory Flights to get started with the cockpit area and Training Flights, which are meant for individuals seeking to obtain a ULM Pilot Licence. Our ultralight aircrafts are easy to pilot and we are lucky to have a good aerology conditions and air traffic in Poé-Déva.

Take-offs are from Poé's airfield, 175 km from Nouméa (2 hours drive approx.) or 127 km from Koné (1 hour 40 minutes drive).

The immediate scenic view of the lagoon is the particularity of our Poé's flight. In addition, since the distance between the beach and barrier reef is about 1.8 km, barely 20 seconds upon take off, one experiences an incredible view with the mountain range, the plain, the barrier, the deep blue and certainly the lagoon, which is 3 to 5 meters deep.

Our ultra-light aircrafts have been chosen for their unique panoramic vision (low helicopter-type cockpit and wide windows up to the seat) which allow you not to miss any detail with a single 180° glance. You will sit side by side with your pilot and guide for a better flight experience.

Requisits for the Introductory and Training Flights:

- Minimum Age: 15 years old (parental authorisation required for passengers under 18 years old)

- Maximum weight: 95 kg / 209,5 lbs.

The Introductory Flight has a duration of 1 hour in total. After a short briefing of 5-10 min, you will get started with flying and the cockpit area for about 50 minutes. There may be some ground approaches, if the instructor considers that you are ready for it. This type of flight is effectuated around Poé's Airfield airstrip. But rest assured, you will not miss the omnipresent barrier reef located in Deva's nature site and its beach of 14 km long.

For an affordable price, you can test and be a pilot for 1 hour and, eventually, decide if your are interested in starting, or not, a ULM Pilot Traning with the aim to obtain a ULM Pilot Licence.

The Training Flights are done for those who want to enroll in a ULM Pilot Training Course. It is structured in two main phases:

1. The practical flight training, taught at Poé's Airfield in Bourail, which has great aerology conditions adapted to learn to fly an aircraft. According to the student's evolution, cross-country flights may be suggested as part of the training program, in order to learn in different airfields of the country. 

The national average is set between 20 to 30 hours of practical flight training, in order to acquire operational autonomy for solo flights. It corresponds to 40 training lessons approximately, depending in the student's age and attendance rate.

Our instructor will approve the student's skills up until the practical flight test to obtain the two-seater ULM Pilot Licence graduation, as our ULMs are two-seater aircrafts.​​​​​​​

2. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The theorical course for the obtention of the ULM Pilot Licence has, on one hand, a documentation package which students have to study and, on the other hand, online tests and MCQ on a specific website that are similar to those found in the official exam of the French Civil Aviation Authority in Nouméa.

For Multi-axis training, and depending on the aeronautical knowledge of the student, certain relevant courses/subjects for multi-axis piloting and flight in controlled areas may be studied with the instructor, upon request.

The exam registration is free of charge every 2 months approx., in Nouméa. Wednesdays between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM.

To obtain the ULM Pilot Licence, students can have a maximum of 10 wrong answers, in other words, 75% of correct answers.

To obtain the ULM Pilot and Flight Instructor Licence, student may get a maximum of 4 wrong answers, in other words, 90% or correct answers.​​​​​​​

Once these two key exams have been successfully passed, the student can submit the complete personal file to the DAC (French Civil Aviation Authority) to obtain the ULM Pilot Licence valid for life.

Note:
For our Training Flights meant to obtain the ULM Pilot Licence, a medical certificate of no contraindication to ULM flying is mandatory for the 1st registration and only once in the pilot's life.

It is not a specific aeronautical medical visit but an ordinary one to your doctor who will certify that you have no contraindication to piloting a ULM, Paragliding, Kitesurfing, etc.)
